Judge Muhammad Bashir stated that NAB was not bound to inform accused before arrest

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The accountability court on Thursday rejected the petition related to the arrest of Bushra Bibi, the wife of the PTI chief, in the Toshakhana and 190 million pounds case, deeming it premature.

Judge Muhammad Bashir heard the case while NAB Prosecutor Muzaffar Abbasi and PTI lawyers were present.

During the proceedings, defense counsel Latif Khosa submitted higher courts' decisions about arrests in accountability court cases.

The NAB prosecutor argued that there is no legal requirement in NAB law to inform the accused before arrest, citing the case of Asif Ali Zardari. He also contested the accuracy of the references provided by Latif Khosa.

In response, Latif Khosa urged NAB not to be evasive about the arrest and suggested that if an arrest was unnecessary, Bushra Bibi's bail should be confirmed. He emphasized her right to exercise all legal options.

The NAB prosecutor argued that the pre-arrest request reflects apprehension, reiterating that there is no need to arrest Bushra Bibi.

Following the arguments, the accountability court reserved its decision regarding the notification of Bushra Bibi before any potential arrest.

Ultimately, the court dismissed Bushra Bibi's request for prior notification, and Judge Muhammad Bashir stated that NAB was not bound to inform the accused before arrest.
